A short history of the Society

Home page

Every year the Society gives awards for the best plots

The allotment field is inspected by members of the committee during the growing season (usually in July or August) and plots are judged using the following criteria.

  • General cleanliness / weed control [20 points]
  • Paths and edges [10 pts]
  • Health and vigour of plants / yield [30 pts]
  • Variety of plants [20 pts]
  • Overall impression and layout [10 pts]
  • Items of recognition labeling / compost / staking / crop rotation / inter-cropping [10 pts]

A penalty of 10 points will be deducted from the total if the plot holder fails to display the plot's number.

Persons involved in judging are allowed to compete but are not able to judge their own plots.

The exact dates for the inspection of the plots varies each year and is dependent on holiday arrangements and the availability of committee members. However an announcement will be made on this website and on the site's notice boards so that plot holders can make final preparations in readiness for the inspection.
