If you need to report a crime (which is non urgent) please report it to the police by phoning 101.

In an emergency you should still dial 999.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the big day. We had lots of donations of fruit, vegetable, jams, chutney and cakes, all of which sold very well. We had many visitors who enjoyed making purchases and walking round the site. Photographs of the day can be seen by clicking here to visit our photogallery

More people lent a hand this year helping to get the marquee unpacked, erected and repacked at the end of the day which was very much appreciated.

Disposal of Green Waste

Havering Council has decided to charge us to remove waste from the site and the Society's management committee has resolved that the two big waste bins on the site can only be used for disposal of non compostable materials e.g. plastic, metal etc. They cannot be used for rubbish brought in off site.

The Society's Rule on Composting (7.16) states:

Members must compost all their green waste on their own plots or dispose of it off site….

So, if you do not intend to take your green waste off site, or to bury it on your plot, would you please ensure that you have a compost bin. This will provide you with a source of free compost which you can use on your plot.

Compost bins of varying sizes and types can be obtained at subsidised prices from http://www.havering.getcomposting.com/.

Alternatively bins can be built from wooden pallets, fixed together. Instructions on how to do this can be found on the BBC Gardeners' World website at http://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/projects/compost-bin/

Hosepipe and sprinkler charges for 2011 have now been set by the management committee and are as follows:

1 - 5 rod plots will be charged £15 to use a hosepipe and an additional £8 to use a sprinkler.

6 - 10 rod plots will be charged £30 to use a hosepipe and an additional £15 to use a sprinkler.

11 - 20 rod plots will be charged £55 to use a hosepipe and an additional £28 to use a sprinkler.

21 rods and above will be charged £80 to use a hosepipe and an additional £40 to use a sprinkler.

Please note that, as stated in the Society's rules under section 6.6, 'using a hosepipe by laying it on the ground or supporting it by any means other than being held by a person will be considered as use of a sprinkler.'

Hose and sprinkler charges are payable upon first use, anyone found using a hose or sprinkler without paying the relevant charges risks having their membership of the Society terminated.

You can pay the above charges in the Society's trading store on Saturday mornings between the hours of 10.00am - 12.00pm or on Sunday mornings between the hours of 9.30 - 11.30am.

If you cannot get to the store send a cheque to Daniel Smart at 16 Moray Way, Romford, RM1 4YD. Please make cheques payable to the Romford Smallholders Society.
